The pandemic devastated the country’s labor market, causing a crisis in which millions of jobs were lost. The highest figure was reached in April 2020, with a total of 20.5 million jobs lost in the U.S., according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). The unemployment rate increased to 14.7%, the highest recorded since 1939 when the BLS began tracking this data (1).
